Celebrating Ostara and the Vernal Equinox 2024

Although we often celebrate Ostara and the Vernal (Spring) Equinox together, they are two different calendar days; This year, the Spring Equinox is March nineteenth. Ostara is the Full Moon that follows the Vernal Equinox and is March twenty-fifth. This is the time when Persephone returns from the Underworld. Her mother Demeter expresses her profound joy at Persephone's return with abundant fertility, birth/rebirth and fresh growth throughout the land. As this is the time of new dawn and rebirth, it's an invitation to step fully into the juiciness of growth. No matter if you celebrate these days together or separately, Spring is at your doorstep! Welcome her!You might offer a silent prayer noting the day or attend a ritual or ceremony. Perhaps you'll prepare a meal of spring vegetables, fresh eggs, and dairy products from spring milk. Bring the magic inside with spring flowers, especially Elderflower which symbolizes protection and abundance. It's time to start the seeds for the garden - nurturing them carefully in the brightening days to reward you with fresh food at Lammas. And of course, sweeping out the old and welcoming the new with spring cleaning, starting a new project, and making room for the growth that this season brings for all of Gaia. No matter your attention to this season, we all celebrate the Wheel turning to a new beginning.
